The big day has arrived! Walk to the Sun Gate and get your first glimpse of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Explore this majestic place and learn all its mysteries and secrets.

Today is the day your exciting journey along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu begins. Early in the morning, between 4:30 and 5:00 am, our guide and driver will be waiting for you at your accommodation in Cusco to take you to the starting point. If you are in Urubamba, the pick up will be between 5:30 and 6:00 am, and if you are in Ollantaytambo, between 6:30 and 7:00 am.

After an hour and a half drive from Cusco to Ollantaytambo, you will enjoy a tasty breakfast before heading to Piscacucho – KM 82, where your trek will begin. Here you will be introduced to our trekking team, composed of cooks and porters, who will accompany you throughout the trek to make sure you have the best possible experience.

Remember to have your original passport with you, as you will need it to pass the checkpoint and start the trek. During the first few hours, you will walk gently as you familiarize yourself with the terrain. You will make a stop in Canabamba to learn about the water channels and admire the La Veronica glacier. Later, you will arrive at the magical archaeological site of Llactapata, where you will enjoy a revitalizing lunch at Tarayoc.

In the afternoon, you will continue hiking to our first camp at Ayapata (3,300 m / 10,827 ft). Along the way, you will pass through two small communities where you can stock up on any last minute necessities. Arriving at camp around 5:00 pm, you will have time to rest, enjoy a hot drink and reflect on the first day of your adventure. Dinner will be served around 7:30 pm, before you retire to rest and recharge your batteries for the next day. Get ready for an unforgettable experience in the Andes Mountains!

Another early start awaits you today when we wake you up with a hot coca tea. This plant, consumed since the time of the Incas, will give you a boost of energy and combat the fatigue of the altitude. A challenging day awaits us, the most strenuous of the route. Be sure to enjoy breakfast to recharge your batteries.
We will start by climbing for four hours to the highest point of the route, the Abra the woman pass (4,215 m / 13,829 ft). From here, you will have incredible views of the imposing mountains. You will feel the spirit of the ancient Incas who walked these trails centuries ago.

Then, we will descend for an hour and a half to Pacaymayu, where we will have lunch. After a delicious lunch, we will ascend to the Inca site of Runkurakay for about 45 minutes. We will explore this small complex and climb another 45 minutes to the top of Abra Runkurakay, an excellent place for a ceremony dedicated to Mother Earth and the mountains.

We will continue descending for approximately one hour to the archaeological complex of Sayaqmarka. Although it is difficult to reach, it is well worth a visit. From there, you will only have 25 more minutes to our campsite at Chaquiqocha (3,600 m / 11,811 ft). After another delicious meal, you can admire the Andean night sky and learn about the Inca constellations.

Congratulations on making it through the most challenging day! A magnificent reward awaits you today.

After a restful night’s sleep, you will wake up at 6:30 a.m. to enjoy a delicious breakfast. Then, you will hike for an hour and a half while marveling at the green landscape and the view of the Salkantay glacier on one side and the jungle on the other. The Vilcabamba mountain range will amaze you with its beauty.

Then, you will ascend to the final peak of the route at Phuyupatamarka (3,650 m / 11,975 ft), a mystical place above the clouds. You will descend for two and a half hours to Intipata, an important agricultural site with breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and the Urubamba River.

We will continue hiking for half an hour until we reach our campsite, near the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna. Here you will enjoy lunch before exploring this fascinating place. Wiñay Wayna, which means “eternally young”, is one of the highlights of the route.

You will explore the site for an hour while your guide takes you back in time. This is the perfect time to reflect on the efforts of the team that has accompanied you along the route. After a small celebration with the group, the porters will say goodbye.

It is time to rest early to be ready for sunrise. Tomorrow you will visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. We will try to arrive early so that you can enjoy the magical sunrise at this iconic site.

Today, all your efforts of the previous days will be rewarded with the most incredible prize. You will have to wake up at 3:30 a.m. to make sure you get to the Puerta del Sol to witness the sunrise. At 4:00 a.m., we will provide you with water and packed breakfast to start the hike. We will be one of the first groups to arrive at the checkpoint and will walk for approximately one hour to get there. Be prepared, because once we arrive, you will be greeted by the first views of the incredible marvel of Inca architecture and engineering.

Congratulations, you’ve made it! Finally, you will be inside Machu Picchu. Surrender to this sacred site that has patiently awaited your arrival and will awaken something deep within you. We will enjoy a one and a half hour guided tour of the highlights, while your guide narrates the fascinating history of the Incas and their mysteries.

As you walk through this fascinating creation, you will feel the intimate connection between man and nature. You will see immense stones that come together harmoniously to form temples, streets, houses and aqueducts that continue to function for more than five centuries. Machu Picchu was built in an inaccessible place to resist any attack and to remind modern man that only in true communion with Mother Earth or Pachamama can we exist fully.

After the excursion, you will have the option to climb Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, if you have booked tickets in advance. You will then take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch at a restaurant of your choice before boarding the train to Ollantaytambo. Tickets are usually reserved for the 3:20 p.m. or 4:22 p.m. times, depending on availability, and you should be at the station at least 30 minutes before departure. Upon arrival at the final train station, one of our representatives will be waiting for you with private transportation to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
